North Macedonian economic uncertainties, lack of decent jobs and the evolving global business landscape are constraining SMEs productivity, access to business support services and green transformation.
SMEs play a central role in the country’s economy, by engaging the largest portion of employees, generating significant portion of the GDP, operating across all economic sectors.
The Swiss Modernisation Project addresses the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing business diagnostics and facilitating access to tailored support services to help them modernise. The business diagnostics process is expected to improve SMEs’ productivity, competitiveness, and environmental performance, ultimately leading to business growth and the creation of decent employment. When SMEs have better access to relevant, high-quality consultancy services, they are more likely to invest in strategic improvements. This creates a positive cycle of modernisation, efficiency, and sustainable job creation.
The main beneficiaries are SMEs, while also impacting employees who will benefit from decent work opportunities. Key stakeholders include consultancy firms, anchor companies, and business associations, which play a critical role in delivering services and supporting SMEs throughout the modernisation process. One of the project’s main activities is to further develop the capacities of these partners, ensuring they can offer high-quality, evidence-based services. As a result, SMEs become more informed about business support services and more willing to invest in modernisation.
The expected impact of the project is that modernised businesses, by enhancing productivity and supporting green transformation, contribute to more sustainable economic growth and creation of decent jobs.
This outcome aims at facilitating the use of relevant services and solutions for modernisation to improve productivity, enhance green transition and foster the provision of decent employment.
This aims to support the market actors to become more dynamic, responsive to the businesses’ needs and facilitate sustainable and continuous modernisation of the private sector.
The Swiss Modernisation Project will contribute to strengthening the national market system, supporting productivity increase, and green transition of SMEs.
