Geneva based global coffee trading firm, Louis Dreyfus Company, recently announced its Stronger Coffee Initiative (SCI) as its new platform for collaborative investments in coffee sustainability consisting of 3 interrelated areas of action: 1) Farmer Prosperity (incl. Gender Equity and Youth), 2) Low Carbon Production, and 3) Regenerative Agriculture. Through a competitive process, Louis Dreyfus Company has selected Swisscontact as the technical Service Provider to support it in the co-creation of the Stronger Coffee Initiative’s operational plan and the establishment of its global monitoring & evaluation (M&E) framework. The SCI has the targets that by 2027 to improve the prosperity of 30,000 farmers, leading to the production of 180,000 MT of certified, low carbon coffee, and in so doing, restore the soils on 100,000 ha of coffee farmland.
Over the course of 2023, Swisscontact will work with Louis Dreyfus Company global leadership and local teams across 8 coffee origin countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America in this co-creation of the SCI operational plan to achieve these targets. As part of this work, Swisscontact will employ its Farmer Network Analytics (FarmNetX) tools for targeting farmer segments with tailor made interventions to maximize adoption of best practices and more sustainable production standards.
