Swisscontact Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden, hosted a Knowledge Sharing Workshop titled " Knowledge Sharing Workshop: Productivity & Green Skills for the RMG Sector in Bangladesh " at The Westin Dhaka. The event focused on advancing sustainability and productivity in the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector through the lens of the PROGRESS project. It served as a platform to exchange insights, showcase achievements and lessons learned, and discuss the way forward for a greener future in industry.

The event featured comprehensive presentations that shared key findings from the PROGRESS project. These highlighted innovative green practices, environmental and economic benefits, and the role of skill development in promoting sustainability. A video presentation further illustrated the impact of training initiatives designed to prepare the workforce for a more sustainable garment industry.

Interactive Dialogues for a Sustainable Future

A panel discussion titled "Driving Sustainable Change: A Dialogue on the Future of the RMG Industry" brought together experts such as Professor Mohammad Abdul Momen from Pride Group, Ms. Syeda Shaila Ashraf of Renaissance Group, and sustainability managers from global brands. They discussed strategies to enhance green skills, align with international sustainability standards, and address gender inclusivity in the sector.

Key discussions also focused on building technical expertise to sustain green practices, incorporating international frameworks like GSP+, and fostering management-led sustainability efforts.

Encouraging Collaboration and Action

The workshop served as a vital platform for sharing knowledge, best practices, and innovative ideas among stakeholders, including industry leaders, policymakers, and development organizations. It underscored the importance of collective action in embedding sustainability into the fabric of the RMG sector, ensuring that it meets the demands of global markets and environmental stewardship.

By creating avenues for dialogue and collaboration, the Knowledge Sharing Workshop reaffirmed the commitment of Swisscontact Bangladesh and the Embassy of Sweden to building a greener, more sustainable future for the RMG sector in Bangladesh.

Promoting Green Growth in the Ready-Made Garments Sector Through Skills (PROGRESS) project envisions contributing to the development of an inclusive, environmentally responsible, and competitive RMG sector in Bangladesh that can offer productive, well paid, secured, and decent job opportunities to workers, mostly women, and at the same time, adapt to the evolving needs of the global market in terms of technological advancement and ESG standards.
