On May 15, 2023, the Building Youth Employability Through Skills (BYETS) project, implemented by Swisscontact and funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, conducted a consultation workshop in collaboration with the Agro Food Industry Skills Council (AFISC). The workshop was an endeavour to identify the most demanded skills for the workforce among employers, share and validate the findings of the market assessment for agro-processing.
The event was attended by representatives from 21 renowned agro-processing factories, The BYETS team presented the key findings from the agro-processing sectoral assessment undertaken by the project’s partner Inspira Advisory & Consulting Ltd, Participants gave their valuable input regarding the study findings. Major industries that participated in the event are Kazi Group of Industries, IFAD, Abdul Monem Group, Poultry Association, PRAN Group, Bombay Sweets, AP, Meghna Group, Olympic, Akij Bashir Group, Institute of Mushroom Research and Development, Bonoful, Ridisha Food and Beverage among others.
The Chairman of Agro Food Industry Skills Council (AFISC) Mr. Md Shafiqur Rahman Bhuiyan mentioned that, "We are in a quest to achieve a smart Bangladesh and that’s why we need a skilled workforce” He also added that BYETS can play an instrumental role in achieving that objective.
Agro-Processing is one of the three sectors the BYETS project will focus on. BYETS aims to increase the income of young individuals by creating opportunities for decent employment and self-employment in the Agro-processing (AP), Readymade Garments (RMG), and Communication Technology (ICT) sectors across four specific divisions of Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, and Rajshahi.
