The Building Youth Employability Through Skills (BYETS) project of Swisscontact participated in the 23rd Textech Bangladesh 2024 International Expo, held from November 6th to 9th, 2024 and organised by CEMS Global. This four-day event provided a platform for BYETS project and its partnered consultanty firms to showcase their specialised services for the readymade garments industry. Additionally, BYETS also conducted a panel discussion on “Bridging the Gap: Enabling Tier 2/3 RMG Factories through Skills Development and Compliance,” featuring industry representatives and experts who shared insights on enhancing skills and compliance standards across the sector.
On November 7th, 2024, Mohammad Monower Hossain, Sustainability Expert, moderated a seminar where panellists, including Saif Mohammad Moinul Islam from ILO, Nadia Afrin Shams from BYETS project, industry expert Abdullah Al Rana Farhad, and industry representative Md Hasan, led discussions on new regulatory changes and stricter compliance requirements facing the readymade garments sector as Bangladesh transitions from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. Discussions underscored the urgent need for Tier 2 and Tier 3 factories to engage in skills development initiatives, emphasising that a skilled workforce is crucial for meeting stricter compliance standards and maintaining international competitiveness. A key takeaway was the importance of creating a central database to consolidate contact information and essential details about garment factories across Bangladesh, facilitating better industry-wide connectivity and resource sharing.
BYETS’s presence at the Textech International Expo marked a significant milestone, as it is the first development project of its kind to participate in this globally recognised event. This platform enabled BYETS to engage with top industry leaders, manufacturers, and production managers, potentially opening doors for future partnerships and collaborative opportunities for both national and international consultants. The Expo also highlighted BYETS’s dedication to advancing the RMG sector in Bangladesh through strategic partnerships and skill-building initiatives, setting a new standard for development projects within the industry.
