The launch event, organized by Cambodia Post and supported by Swisscontact through Global Alliance of Trade Facilitation’s Improving Small Package E-Trade for SMEs (SeT4SME) Project, was attended by key stakeholders, Cambodia Post representatives, SMEs, and development partners, marking a milestone in the digitalization of Cambodia's postal services.
E-commerce activities have trended upward significantly due to technological and digital advancements. This has led to the flourishing of small packages trading across borders. As far as cross-border e-commerce is concerned, the postal operator is the key player and at the forefront of Cambodia’s image in the trade chain. The postal network allows MSMEs to participate in e-commerce by giving them an affordable and direct means to ship merchandise to customers and reducing the need for them to interact with distributors, customs brokers, and retailers. Customs is another key player. The fast-growing volumes of cross-border e-commerce shipments present a number of challenges to Customs to ensure rapid release and clearance while managing safety and security risks, efficient revenue collection, and statistical analysis.
Moreover, the Royal Government of Cambodia's recently introduced Pentagon Strategy underscores the significance of technology, prioritizing the advancement of the digital economy and society. In this regard and in line with its digitalization strategy, Cambodia Post has been actively working to enable advance sharing of data electronically with customs, so to expedite the customs clearance process of international postal shipments. Another major reform millstone is a modernized website and mobile application, offering dynamic and digital features for users. These features include parcel tracking, request for pickups, calculating shipping fees, domestic and international shipping with the capability to prepare shipping label (CN22/CN23) in electronic format.
The launch event was not only an opportunity for Cambodia Post to showcase its enhanced services but also to engage with SMEs, new customers, and members of business associations. The new website will not only benefit individual users but also open doors for potential service collaborations between Cambodia Post and SMEs, fostering an environment for business growth and innovation.
The proceedings commenced with a welcome remark from Mr. THEN Samvisoth, Director General of Cambodia Post, who emphasized the importance of this digital transformation in improving postal services across the country. This was followed by a presentation titled "How SMEs can benefit from enhanced digital services of Cambodia Post." Representatives of Cambodia Post and key partners announced the official launch of the new website, showcasing the platform's capabilities and user-friendly features.
The event concluded with a networking session, allowing SMEs, business owners, and Cambodia Post representatives to exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations. This launching event brought together 50 participants, including the key stakeholders of Cambodia Post, especially its customers, vendors, and interested SMEs.
Cambodia Post's move to modernize its services through digitalization represents a significant step towards providing faster, more efficient, and customer-centric postal solutions. The newly launched website is expected to simplify the postal process for users, making domestic and international parcel sending easier than ever before. This initiative aligns with the broader objective of the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation and the SeT4SME Project in fostering economic growth and innovation in Cambodia.
