These podcasts were created as part of the Sahel Opportunités project implemented by Swisscontact. The project promotes vocational training, strengthens employment opportunities, and empowers marginalised communities to increase their income and resilience in a challenging environment.
Through digitalisation, these podcasts have successfully filled a critical information gap in Senegal's professional training landscape. By focusing on dual training programs that integrate enterprise and training centres, these broadcasts highlight the significant efforts underway to enhance the educational quality for approximately 400,000 young people. The primary goal is to promote vocational training in both crafts and agriculture, targeting youth in rural and urban areas alike. The podcasts raise awareness about available financing options and encourage the adoption of modern, productive methods. By emphasising the importance of dual training, these digital initiatives aim to reduce youth migration, foster community development, and contribute to local food self-sufficiency.
The first episode emphasizes the importance of modernized training and certification. Discussions focus on the role of chambers of commerce, innovation in dual training, and the integration of international standards, alongside addressing school dropout rates and the critical role vocational training plays in preventing youth migration.
This episode delves into the workings of Integrated Agricultural Training Systems (SIFAs) and their impact on youth engaged in animal and plant production. The practical, hands-on approach, with 90% practice and 10% theory, is highlighted as essential, alongside the role of management committees in ensuring sustainability.
Success stories from youth who have benefited from these training programs underscore the positive impact of SIFAs. Additionally, the episode highlights the growing integration of young women into traditionally male-dominated trades, such as woodworking and automotive mechanics, signaling a shift in societal norms and opening new opportunities for women.
