The Service Providers' E-Directory is an innovative, easily accessible online platform aimed at connecting large agro-input and agro-vet companies, large traders, and traders, etc. with experienced service providers in their area. These providers offer essential agricultural inputs, including high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and livestock services, along with critical advice on modern farming practices. By making this directory available online, farmers and entrepreneurs can now directly access the information they need to improve their agricultural outcomes and ensure better market linkages. Moreover, different stakeholders can also access the information if they desire to work in this field.
The M4C project, mandated by the Embassy of Switzerland and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and implemented by Swisscontact Bangladesh and the Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bogura, has been working tirelessly to improve the livelihoods of char farmers. The launch of the Service Providers' E-Directory is a significant milestone in this effort, offering an efficient, user-friendly digital platform to strengthen the agricultural value chain in char regions. The service providers' e-directory is hosted in the Char Development Research Center (CDRC) website. As the anchoring and institutionalisation partner, CDRC will manage and continue upgrading the database beyond the completion of the M4C project.
By visiting the website, larger companies, traders, and buyers can now easily locate and connect with service providers who can meet their agricultural and livestock needs. To capitalise the farmers’ capacity, the platform ensures that farmers receive high-quality inputs, professional advice, and critical services that are essential for increasing productivity and income. The service providers are also influencing the output market. By delivering products produced in the char region to the broader market, they help ensure that char farmers receive fair value for their goods. The traders listed in the e-directory play a crucial role in bridging the gap between government stakeholders, such as the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), and char traders. This connection enables char farmers to access government facilities, while also allowing the government to achieve broader-scale benefits. This online tool is particularly valuable in the char regions, which are often isolated and where access to such resources can be limited.
Currently, the M4C project is operational across six districts in Bangladesh: Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Jamalpur, and Shariatpur. These districts are known for their geographical isolation and vulnerability to natural disasters. The Service Providers' E-Directory provides around 2600 contact details of the service providers’ from the above-mentioned areas. Not only that, to ensure proper usage, M4C provided hands-on training to the representatives of CDRC at RDA. This will play a vital role in overcoming these challenges by providing a direct connection between farmers and service providers, fostering improved agricultural practices and market accessibility.
In addition to promoting access to agricultural inputs, the M4C project is committed to fostering environmentally sustainable agricultural practices. The E-Directory helps farmers adopt modern techniques that improve crop yields while ensuring long-term sustainability for the environment. Through this platform, farmers gain the knowledge and resources needed to transition to sustainable farming methods, which is a crucial aspect of the M4C’s mission.
The launch of the Service Providers' E-Directory is a key initiative by M4C to empower char entrepreneurs. This online platform is designed to ensure that local entrepreneurs and relevant stakeholders can easily access the critical services needed to enhance agricultural productivity, improve livelihoods, and reduce poverty in the region. Visit the webpage today to explore the full range of services available to char entrepreneurs, and to be part of this groundbreaking initiative.
