On May 21-22, 2024, the EdUP project held two educational-practical conferences, "Modern Technologies in Tiling" and "Modern Technologies in Electricity. The events, supported by the League of Masters, aimed to enhance the qualifications of vocational education teachers so they can prepare graduates who are competitive and meet the demands of modern employers.

63 educators from VET institutions across Ukraine had the opportunity to refine their skills under the guidance of experts from leading companies in the fields of electricity and tiling.

Both conferences aimed to enhance the qualifications of vocational education teachers, enabling them to prepare graduates capable of competing and meeting the demands of modern employers. The conferences included theoretical and practical sessions, allowing participants to master modern methods and materials in tiling and electrical work.

"We, along with the partners, are transferring best practices. Our goal, along with business representatives and employers, is to go through the entire educational standard and improve it. So that teachers can become true trainers for their students, who will enter production tomorrow, where they can apply the skills learned. "

The theoretical part regarding the preparation and cladding of surfaces was presented by specialists from SIKA Ukraine, a donor to the EdUP project.

"SIKA feels a social responsibility of business towards society, especially during these difficult times. Our common goal is to make all efforts to ensure that our children, students of professional technical education, remain in Ukraine. To this end, they must enter the labor market as qualified workers capable of earning good money."

Experts from the company DISTAR reviwed tile processing with specialized tools, showcased their best products, and allowed educators to try them out practically.

The practical module for tile cladders included activities like:

  • Laying tiles on vertical and horizontal surfaces, by SIKA Ukraine;
  • Selection of equipment for drilling holes and maintaining geometry, by DISTAR;
  • Cutting ceramic and porcelain tiles, a master class for participants conducted by a master tiler with 20 years of experience and an international category judge, Oleksandr Vyshynskyi.

The practical module for electricians included activities such as:

  • Installation and dismantling of devices for protection against impulse overvoltage, by Schneider Electric;
  • Introduction to modern tools for electrical installation work, by Phoenix Contact Ukraine.

During the conference, participants also explored the strengths and weaknesses of their professional personas in a coaching training session titled “Inner Potential – The Basis for Effective Communication”. The goal of the training is to identify and develop necessary soft skills among vocational training masters to build effective partnerships with businesses.

The Ministry of Education and Science highlighted the importance of EdUP's initiatives in conducting educational-practical conferences for educators of professional education in Ukraine.

"We are pleased to see our partnership initiatives with the EdUP project come to life through events such as conferences on modern technologies. Thanks to such efforts, our graduates enter the job market not just with diplomas, but with real skills demanded by modern Ukrainian and international companies. "

The knowledge and skills acquired by vocational training teachers during such conferences are necessary for VET school graduates to enter the job market as qualified workers familiar with modern technologies and materials for work.

The EdUP project, including its Scale UP initiative, is playing a crucial role in addressing the serious challenges faced by Ukraine's vocational education and training (VET) sector during wartime. The war has destroyed many VET schools and exacerbated a skills shortage that affects several sectors, despite employers' willingness to offer competitive wages and resources. EdUP aims to rebuild and improve vocational schools and break stereotypes about vocational graduates. By decentralising training and aligning it with local economic needs, the project will improve the quality of vocational training, attract additional resources, work with the private sector, and modernise education to equip Ukraine's workforce for today's demands.
