Expanding on the success of Give a Day gatherings in Phnom Penh, the initiative ventured into Siem Reap in 2023, co-hosting with the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Cambodia (YEAC) Siem Reap and into Battambang in 2024, co-hosting with Phum Impact. The latest installment in Battambang showcased the growing importance of collaboration and support structures outside the capital to promote an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The event in Battambang was driven by a set of clear objectives, reflecting the community's aspirations and support needed for entrepreneurial growth. These included acknowledging the shared challenges faced by entrepreneurs, enhancing collaboration among entrepreneurial support organizations (ESOs), nurturing a community conducive to mentorship and peer interaction, and establishing a robust network of ecosystem actors for future collaboration.
The breakout discussion and peer-sharing session addressed building a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem and the specific needs of Battambang entrepreneurs. Participants highlighted challenges like lacking digital marketing skills and market access, financial management, motivation, and business knowledge, along with high competition and logistical issues, and meeting product standards and quality requirements.
The suggested solutions included providing training to entrepreneurs to enhance their digital literacy, offering more business training, supplying technical knowledge to improve product standards, and creating additional market opportunities.
To strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem, stakeholders recommend hosting sector-specific events to identify and address specific issues and challenges tailored to the unique need of each industry. Participants emphasized essential elements for bolstering the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Battambang.
With 26 attendees actively contributing to discussions and forging connections, the inaugural Give a Day in Battambang set a promising precedent for future collaborations and initiatives aimed at empowering provincial entrepreneurs.
Give a Day is funded by Khmer Enterprise (KE), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)
