Shomvob with support from ASTHA organised a job fair in Sylhet. This is the first time that an event like this has been organized which brought together over 300 community paramedics and representatives from more than 15 healthcare service providing institutes. It was a chance for the aspiring community paramedics to explore exciting career paths and for employers to discover the pool of qualified healthcare providers. Jonmejoy Dutta, the Deputy Civil Surgeon of Sylhet graced the event as the chief guest, highlighting the important role that community paramedics are playing in the rural healthcare sector.

Community paramedics (CPs) are playing a vital role for providing primary healthcare services to underserved populations in remote locations. Limited access to information, professional networks, and career guidance significantly hinders their ability to find suitable employment opportunities.

Shomvob hosted a job fair on 18th May 2024, in Sylhet to boost the career opportunities for the local community paramedics. The event provided the local community paramedics with a chance to have an exchange with prospective employers. Besides, Shomvob facilitated the participating community paramedics to register into Shomvob’s online job matching platform and create or update their curriculum vitae.

The chief guest Jonmejoy Dutta said, “Bangladesh has made significant progress in improving the healthcare indicators. However, we are still struggling to ensure quality health care service in rural areas. Unfortunately, many healthcare institutions recruit unskilled workers. I believe the community people would get much better service if qualified community paramedics are recruited by these heathcare providers. This job fair is a timely initiative to connect job seekers and employers in the health sector. I would like this fair not to end here, but to be organised on a bigger scale every year.”

Employers participating in the fair, especially Shakti Foundation, Marie Stopes Bangladesh, Imperial Hospital, SSKS, FPAV, Norland found the fair very fruitful. Md. Rashidul Hassan, Project Director, SSKS said, “We have hired community paramedics before. However, Shomvob’s platform is going to make the recruitment process easier from now onwards. At present, three community paramedics are working in our institution, and they are rendering service with great efficiency and dedication. We plan to recruit more community paramedics in future.”
