Celebrating 30 Years of Impact with the SEC Programme

Swisscontact's Senior Expert Contact (SEC) programme celebrated its 30th anniversary in Nepal with a landmark event focused on sustainable tourism. The anniversary event, graced by Dr. Danielle Meuwly, Swiss Ambassador to Nepal, brought together 100 key stakeholders from the tourism sector, highlighting the programme’s enduring impact. The SEC has supported a network of 550 SMEs creating approximately 4,700 jobs and an increase in turnover of NPR 4.5 billion.

Transforming Nepal’s TVET Ecosystem through the NVQS Project

In our efforts to enhance skills development, the NVQS project achieved transformative milestones. By anchoring Sector Skills Committees within the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, we strengthened private-sector leadership in the TVET ecosystem, ensuring their sustainability beyond project support. Moreover, through collaboration with provincial and local governments, we mobilised NPR 8.6 million to certify 1,500 informal workers via the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) approach—a critical step in formalising the informal workforce.

Elevating Technical and Vocational Education with the QualiTY Project

The QualiTY project played a pivotal role in elevating the standards of TVET schools across Nepal. Through self-assessments and tailored School Improvement Plans, we supported 265 schools, enabling 159 to implement actionable development strategies. Collaboration with the Training Institute for Technical Instruction upgraded instructional skills and training modules, directly enhancing the quality of technical education.

Improving labour market access for unemployed through the Step Up Project

The Step Up project introduced Shramsansar, www.shramsansar.koshi.gov.np, an inclusive job placement and information platform to facilitate job matching and information exchange among the employment and entrepreneurial eco-system actors. The platform to date has been able to attract 14,000 job seekers, all 137 municipalities of Koshi province, 100 training providers, 200 employers and five BDS providers. As of date about 400 have received employment through this platform.

Revolutionising Agribusiness through CASA

The CASA project revolutionised Nepal’s agribusiness landscape by driving digital transformation. Through specialised software adoption, Sujal Dairy and Paicho Pasal optimised supply chains, improved transparency, and fostered investment readiness. These efforts unlocked NPR 49.5 million in investments for Nepal’s agriculture sector. CASA’s successes in catalysing automation and diversification highlighted the transformative power of digital tools in creating resilient agri-businesses.

Promoting SME Growth through the Sahaj Project

Finally, under the Sahaj project, we celebrated the establishment of the Business Growth Centre by the FNCCI Koshi Chapter and Aadhyanta, promoting SME growth. This year also marked the first provincial Agro Expo and advancements in agribusiness product diversification, including the production of gouda cheese and dried avocado powder. Through Sahaj, we have been able to leverage NPR 33 million from our private sector partners.
