In Luang Prabang Province, we were proud to introduce the Foundation Council to SCP’s Young Journalist Training Programme, an initiative designed to cultivate journalistic skills among young journalists, with a focus on environmental reporting. This stop also allowed us to connect with our valued partner, Econoxlaos.
The visit to Oudomxay Province highlighted the impact of the VTESS project, as we shared the inspiring journey of a project beneficiary who completed a three-month training at the Integrated Vocational Education and Training (IVET) College and now works as a cooking assistant at Namkat Yorla Pa Resort. The Foundation Council also visited the IVET School, meeting with the school director and observing ongoing VTESS training and development efforts. Another memorable moment was meeting a VTESS seed money recipient who, after completing the basic entrepreneurship training course, has successfully opened a tailoring shop in the community.
The Council then had the chance to observe the Digital Literacy Initiative’s coding lessons at Xay District Upper School, where students and trainers warmly welcomed the opportunity to showcase their work.
The visit concluded in Vientiane Capital with stops at the Swisscontact office and W2V’s Reduction of Plastic Waste in SMEs the Plastic Free Laos label and Go2Green including a small green business fair. Additionally, the Council met with our key partners, including the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC) and the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE), to explore future collaboration for sustainable development in Lao PDR.
